Application received for Bonner Streetcar Trail bond project

Post Date:02/09/2017

The Bonner-based community group, Friends of Two Rivers, has submitted an application for building a paved pedestrian trail linking Bonner to East Missoula. The proposed trail would follow the Clark Fork River from Tamarack Drive in Bonner - West Riverside to Speedway Avenue in East Missoula. The project takes it's name from the route it will share with the former streetcar which provided daily service from Milltown to Missoula in the early 20th century.

The group is seeking roughly $319,000 from the available $3 million to cover design and construction costs of the project. The total cost of the project is estimated at just under $1.6 million. Friends of Two Rivers hopes to secure the remaining funds from the Transportation Alternatives Program .

The Missoula County Parks and Trails Advisory Board will review the application and provide a recommendation to the Board of Commissioners at their February 9th meeting. The Board of Commissioners should likely make a final determination on whether or not to fund the project by the end of February 2017.
