Big Sky Park: Request for Proposals for Additional Recreation Opportunities

Post Date:02/01/2017 1:45 PM

Missoula County recently issued a request for proposals to develop new public recreation facilities at Big Sky Park. The specific site made available for development is near the intersection of Tower Street and Spurgin Road, directly south of the Missoula Fastpitch Softball playing field. This site is currently an open field with no existing user-group responsible for maintenance.

Two proposals were received from the following groups:

  1. Missoula Outdoor Court Association – to develop an outdoor court complex with two, three-sided courts for playing handball and other racquet sports along with two pickleball courts.

  2. Hellgate Hunter’s & Anglers – to develop an archery only shooting range with fixed position targets ranging in distance from 20-60 yards.

Public input on these two proposals is requested. The Missoula County Park Board has tentatively scheduled a public hearing to approve an amendment to the Big Sky Park Plan for these proposed uses at their April 20th meeting, 1:30 – 3:30 PM, 323 W. Alder St in Missoula. Interested parties are encouraged to attend.
