In Montana, the House and Senate meet in odd-numbered years to set the biennium budget and pass or modify state law. Though Missoula County has no direct control over decisions the Montana Legislature makes, we consistently communicate with legislators who represent Missoula County constituents throughout each session to help them understand how bills would affect County operations and our residents.
You can also get involved! Look up bills the legislature considered.
Don’t know who your legislators were? No problem! You can look them up by your address and find how best to contact them on leg.mt.gov
The 2023 Legislature passed Senate Bill 358, which requires local governments to post the following lobbying information on our website:
- Missoula County entered into a lobbying agreement with Hensley & Associates on June 28, 2022. The contract period runs July 2022 through June 30, 2026 and totals $40,000 annually.
- All bills the County lobbied on or took a position on, either through Hensley & Associates or directly through staff, are available online.
- Weekly reports are provided to the Missoula County Commissioners at their public administrative meetings during the legislative session, January through May of odd-numbered years
