Detective Division

The Detective Division is comprised of a Captain, Lieutenant, Sergeant and ten Detectives and supported by four civilian staff. Investigations are divided into Property Crimes (vandalism, theft, and burglary), Persons Crimes (assaults, rapes, homicide), Warrants, and Narcotics.

The Detective Division is also responsible for background investigations for applicants, new hires, and concealed weapons permits. Cases, often times, develop from calls for service from our Patrol Division, but they can also be initiated by online reports and individuals reporting in-person during regular business hours.

Our Cold Case Unit is an integral part of our Detective Division investigating unsolved homicides within the jurisdiction of Missoula County.  The Unit also assists neighboring law enforcement agencies.

After completing a thorough investigation, Detectives forward case files to the County Attorney's office for further review.
