The Missoula County Records Center provides storage for records that must be retained for audit, fiscal, administrative, legal, and historic needs. All records sent to the Records Center remain in the legal custody of the originating agency. The Records Center is considered an extension of the office of origin for storage, retrieval and processing purposes only. For this reason, the Center’s staff will perform no docketing, annotation, or certifying of records. Record Center staff will not answer any questions concerning the legal meaning of records stored at the Records Center.

The Records Management department provides the public centralized access to archived county documents. The Records Center has two computer stations for the public to use to research records created and maintained by Missoula County departments.

Records are maintained and date back to the 1800s, with materials currently being scanned, digitized and indexed for easier access. For a title search, research typically begins at the Clerk and Recorder’s Office at the Missoula County Courthouse, with little need to visit the Records Center since most of the materials are indexed and accessible at the courthouse facility to promote ease of use.

The records center is located at 2147 Ernest Avenue, on the block west of the intersection of Brooks and Paxson streets.

All records are available to the public during normal working hours and parking is free.
