Clerk of Court / District Court Operations
Please be advised of the following changes in the delivery of services provided by the Clerk of District Court office due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Information will be updated as circumstances change.
Clerk of Court
As of June 1, the office is open to the public with limited staff.
Office hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday
In-person services by appointment only.

Customer Service Area
- The office requests no more than one person to attend an appointment but will make accommodations for marriage license applicants to appear together.
- Maximum capacity in the customer service area: 3 customers
- Those with appointments should call (406) 258-4780 from outside the clerk's office while maintaining a 6 feet distance from others.
- Maintain physical distancing of 6 feet in the customer service area. Tape markings on the floor provide accurate 6 feet distances.
- A mask or face covering is mandatory for all customers ages five and older. Disposable masks are available upon request.
- Hand sanitizer will be available for customers.
- Staff will wipe down counters, pens, glass barriers and other items between customers.
Public Search Area
- Maximum capacity for public search area: 1 customer
- Call (406) 258-4780 to schedule an appointment to access a public computer.
Marriage Licenses
Applicants may apply online without an in-person visit to the clerk's office or schedule an appointment.
Online (Without an in-person visit)
- Applicants must use the online marriage application system to complete the application.
- Print and have both applicants sign the application.
- Email the signed application, along with a copy of each applicant's ID, to clerkofcourt@missoulacounty.us or fax to (406) 258-4899. Please include a phone number where you can be reached.
- Office staff will contact applicants at the number provided to administer the notary oath, collect the $55 marriage license fee, payable by Visa or MC, and mail the marriage license to the applicant's address.
Appointment
- Call (406) 258-4780 to schedule an appointment.
- Applicants must use the online marriage application system to complete the application prior to the appointment.
- Upon arrival at the courthouse, call (406) 258-4780 from outside the clerk's office while maintaining a 6 feet distance from others.

Document Filings in Court Cases
Self-represented litigants (those without an attorney to represent them) are encouraged to submit paperwork by email, fax, mail or drop box. The regular fee for email/fax filings will be waived. You may also schedule an appointment by calling (406) 258-4780 and must follow the customer service area guidelines above.
