Missoula County is currently working with FEMA and Montana DNRC to update floodplain maps for the Clearwater River from the Seeley Lake outlet to Salmon Lake. The new maps are intended to provide more reliable and detailed information about flood-prone areas along the Clearwater River. FEMA has approved the hydrology which is guiding the mapping effort. DNRC’s current draft floodplain mapping can be viewed here: https://gis.missoulacounty.us/CAPS/changesindfirm/.
On October 27, 2020 Montana DNRC provided the Missoula County Commissioners an update on the Clearwater River floodplain mapping through a virtual meeting. The presentation is available here.
FEMA is expected to issue their Preliminary Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (Preliminary DFIRM) in early 2021. Please bookmark this page for updates and contact Todd Klietz with Missoula County or Tiffany Lynden with MT DNRC for additional information.
