The Missoula Prescription Drug Task Force was created in 2014 in response to a growing concern about the rise in prescription drug misuse and abuse in the Missoula community. The task force planned and hosted the first Prescription Drug Summit in the State of Montana in 2014, along with a week of prevention and awareness actives. These efforts were in partnership with LEAD, a non-profit drug prevention organization in Chicago.
Community Partners: The task force is comprised of members who have expertise or a vested interest in raising awareness around prescription drug misuse and abuse in the Missoula community.
Choices Matter Missoula: The Prescription Drug Task Force has developed an awareness campaign called “Choices Matter Missoula”. This campaign is directed at parents, and aims to inform them about the dangers of prescription drugs; such as the poisoning of young children, high rates of prescription medication abuse among young adults, and the pollution of Missoula waterways due to improper disposal of prescription drugs.
Each of the following steps are considered important to prevent these dangers:
- Proper use of prescription drugs
- Proper storage of all prescription drugs
- Proper disposal of unused prescription drugs.
