Dead Wildlife Pickup
Within Missoula County, on county maintained roads, and outside of City Limits, call Republic Services at 406-543-3157, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5p.m. Republic Services will remove dead wildlife for free up to 72 hours of notification during cooler weather if that window of time falls on a normally scheduled service day. If it is not a normal pickup day and they have a truck nearby, they will try to pick the animal up sooner. Republic Services will NOT pick up dead wildlife once decomposition has begun, typically within a day of death in the hot sun. The animal must be located adjacent to the street by a regular garbage pickup location. If the animal is located in the middle of the road, or otherwise poses an immediate human safety concern, call 911.
To dispose of the animal yourself, you can drop it off free of charge at the Missoula Landfill at 3737 Coal Mine Road between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
You can contact a private contractor to remove the animal for a fee, including Nature's Best Inc. and Ibey Sprinklers and Landscape.
Missoula County does not pick up dead deer or other wildlife.
