The Missoula County Fairgrounds was overflowing with connection and community spirit April 22 as nearly 300 people from across the region showed up for the first-ever Mission Matchup, a new volunteer expo that brought together more than 60 local organizations during National Volunteer Week. "This event blew us away," said Jacey Grange, events and recreation specialist for the Missoula County Fairgrounds. "At one point, the line wrapped through every lot and spilled into overflow parking. It was thrilling to see such an overwhelming interest in community engagement."

The event was at full capacity, with organizations turned away due to limited space, a strong signal that Mission Matchup is here to stay. Plans are already underway to expand into two buildings next year, bring in food trucks, and explore a possible fall edition. Mission Matchup sparked a lot of new partnerships.

"What a fabulous event!" said Lauren Markovich, founder of Reading Opens Your World. "Over 30 people signed up to volunteer with us – that's nearly enough to run one whole school! The setup was top-notch with music, drinks and the raffle. I really hope they bring this back next spring." Jocelyn Leroux of the Sierra Club added, "I was able to connect with a whole new group of Missoulians who hadn't heard of our work. It was well organized, well attended and filled with the kind of energy that brings a community together."

Winners of the door prizes were notified on Thursday, and organizers extend a heartfelt thanks to the donors who made it all possible. Shane Clouse generously provided live music for the evening, The Rhinoceros donated their bar services, and Pepsi contributed soft drinks and water for every guest, keeping spirits high throughout the night. T

he overwhelming turnout and enthusiasm prove that Missoula County is ready for more opportunities to connect, contribute and celebrate community. The Fairgrounds looks forward to welcoming everyone back for the next Mission Matchup on the same Tuesday of National Volunteer Week in 2026, with even more space, more surprises and more impact. If organizations or businesses are interested in being involved in future Mission Match-Up Volunteer Expo events, they are encouraged to contact the Missoula County Fairgrounds.
