Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) adopted new Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for Missoula County on Oct. 5, 2023. Individual maps are called panels, and the entire county is mapped on a grid system. 

Here are the options for finding the map that contains your property:

  • Visit the FEMA Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRM).

  • View and print maps from FEMA's map center. This is helpful if you live outside of Missoula County.

  • Use the indices below to find specific Digital Flood Rate Insurance (also called DFIRM) maps. All of the maps for Missoula County start with 30063C. The last four numbers and letter (ex: 1275E) correspond to the panel file.

FEMA Letters

  • FEMA's Revalidation Letter lists Letter of Map Change (LOMC) issued under older floodplain maps and reaffirmed for the July 6, 2015 DFIRM. The Revalidation Letter does not list LOMCs that have been incorporated, superseded by new or revised mapping or no longer valid. The Revalidation Letter is considered legally binding, in the same manner as an original LOMR-F or LOMA, provided that a copy of the original determination accompanies the Revalidation Letter.
  • On April 5, 2023, FEMA issued an updated Final Summary of Map Actions that describes the effects of revised FIRM Panels for the Clearwater River on previously issued Letter of Map Change actions, effective on Oct. 5, 2023. 
  • FEMA has revalidated the previous Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) which amended the floodplain maps for the Blackfoot and Clark Fork Rivers following the removal of Milltown and Stimson Dams effective July 29, 2015. A summary report is available here.

Flood Insurance Study

The Flood Insurance Study (FIS) is a narrative report of Missoula County's flood hazards. Flood profiles within the FIS may be used to obtain the detailed base flood elevation at a specific site and also the predicted elevation for other flood events. Information contained in the FIS includes a description of the areas studies and the engineering methods used, past flooding information and profiles of the flood source.
